Overview In this role you will lead and coordinate the laboratory section under the Medical Director, ensuring accreditation, quality control, and inventory management. You will train, evaluate, and counsel staff while keeping the section aligned with departmental and institutional goals. The position involves budgeting, instrument maintenance, and compliance with safety and regulatory standards. You will act as a working coordinator, ensuring tests meet standards and deadlines, and you will contribute to manuals and process improvements. This role offers impact through quality and operational excellence in a modern core lab setting.
Responsibilities- Coordinate section operations and staff to ensure timely, standards-aligned testing
- Maintain appropriate staffing levels and staff development
- Manage inventory, supplies, and cost-quality comparisons
- Ensure regulatory, accreditation, and quality control compliance
- Oversee instrument quality control, preventive maintenance, and problem resolution
- Prepare and review procedure manuals and activity menus; manage test additions/deletions
- Communicate with supervisors, pathologists, and hospital personnel; supervise and counsel staff
- Ensure safety and infection control adherence and address equipment work orders
Key requirements- BS or BA degree with MT(ASCP), HTL(ASCP) or CT(ASCP) coursework as required
- Minimum 2 years of experience or MS with 3-5 years of experience
- ASCP generalist certification or equivalent
- Knowledge of quality assurance, regulatory and accreditation requirements
- Ability to troubleshoot, supervise, and guide complex lab testing and reporting
- Strong communication and leadership abilities
- Knowledge of departmental and institutional policies; ability to set priorities
