Overview In this role, you will manage and expand Roche Diagnostics' patent portfolio to support molecular diagnostic assays, sequencing technologies and automated workflows. You'll serve as a functional lead on cross-functional teams developing diagnostic capabilities and ensuring freedom-to-operate. You will counsel stakeholders across R&D, manufacturing, business development and licensing, shaping IP strategy to align with business priorities. Responsibilities- Manage and expand a global patent portfolio for diagnostic assays and sequencing technologies
- Provide counseling to stakeholders on patentability, validity and freedom-to-operate
- Conduct or supervise patent prosecution, including collaboration with outside counsel
- Align patent strategy with short- and long-term business priorities and identify patenting opportunities
- Perform due diligence and perform IP risk assessments (FTO, infringement, validity)
- Support IP-related contracts and relationships with third parties (MTAs, CDAs, collaborations, licensing, acquisitions, litigation)
- Deliver results on-time, on-target and within budget according to team goals
Key requirements- 7+ years in patent prosecution and counseling in corporate or law firm settings
- Registered US patent agent or attorney (bar in good standing)
- Advanced Degree or equivalent in Molecular Biology, Biology, Biochemistry, or Chemistry
- Experience in patenting nucleic acid detection methods and sequencing methods/reagents; protein engineering
- Travel is required; contract/transactional experience desirable but not required
