Overview As Counsel at Travelers, you will manage a caseload of predominantly low to moderate complexity, handling claims and litigation from inception through trial and appeal. You partner with claim colleagues to optimize file handling and outcomes for insured customers. You will apply strong litigation, research, and persuasive writing to achieve favorable resolutions and provide training to partners. Responsibilities- Develop and apply litigation techniques to try cases to verdict or negotiate resolutions
- Conduct legal research and produce persuasive writing and presentations
- Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and related documents
- Attend court events, depositions, and appointments independently
- Provide case analysis and recommendations to insured clients and claim partners
- Foster strong internal and external client and business partner relationships
- Provide advice and training to Claim partners and clients
- Utilize case management systems and technology effectively
- Travel as required to meet business needs
- Perform other duties as assigned
Key requirements- 3+ years of insurance defense litigation experience
- Experience handling cases from inception through trial/hearing & appeal
- Strong communication skills for diverse audiences
- Proven ability to foster collaborative relationships and deliver customer service
- Persuasive legal writing and oral advocacy skills
- Strong legal research skills and ability to use technology
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail and urgency
- Sound decision making and negotiation skills
- Flexible and agile mindset to take on new challenges
- Active license in good standing to practice law in relevant states
- Regularly handles hearings, trials, dispositive motion arguments, depositions, or other court proceedings
- Regularly travels to meetings as needed
- Juris Doctorate or equivalent International legal degree; graduate of an accredited law school
