Overview As Chief Legal Officer, you will lead Singing River's entire legal and compliance function, advising senior leaders and the Board on strategic initiatives and regulatory matters. You will oversee outside counsel, litigation, and risk management, shaping contracts, governance, and compliance programs across the organization. Collaborating with finance, HR, and compliance, you'll ensure adherence to healthcare laws and protect the company's legal and ethical standing. Your leadership will enable prudent risk-taking and strategic outsourcing to optimize legal resources. This role offers high impact at scale, driving legal excellence in a mission-driven health system.
Responsibilities- Oversee and direct the legal function for Singing River
- Advise senior leadership and Board on strategy, transactions, and compliance
- Manage outside counsel and oversee litigation and risk management
- Lead the Legal and Compliance Services Department including policies, contracts, governance, and medical records
- Provide training on legal issues and best practices; supervise in-house legal staff
- Collaborate with finance, HR, and compliance on business practices and organizational structure
- Act as Corporate Secretary for Singing River's wholly-owned companies
- Serve as Compliance Officer for regulatory purposes
- Represent Singing River in negotiations and management of physician contracts
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, and related healthcare laws
- Duty to translate legal risk into actionable business guidance
- Travel within service area as needed
Key requirements- Juris Doctorate from ABA-approved law school
- Bar admission in Mississippi or eligible for prompt licensure
- 8+ years in healthcare, health insurance, or managed care law
- 5+ years supervising attorneys and support staff
- Experience with corporate governance, contracts, and risk management
- Track record in outsourcing legal work and managing outside resources
- Strong judgment in handling large, complex organizational issues
- Experience with privacy, copyright/trademark, employment, and litigation context
- Ability to work cross-functionally and travel as needed
