Overview As an Insurance Defense Associate, you defend insurers and insureds in civil matters across New Jersey, Pennsylvania and federal courts. You will manage a diverse litigation caseload from intake to resolution, shaping case strategy, conducting research, and handling depositions and trials. You'll communicate with clients and claims professionals, coordinate experts, and support senior staff while contributing to a busy, cross-border litigation team. Responsibilities- Manage a diverse litigation caseload from intake through resolution, drafting pleadings, motions, and discovery responses
- Develop case strategy, perform legal research, fact investigation, and witness prep for depositions and trial
- Handle premises liability, construction defects, security claims, toxic exposure, professional liability, and related personal injury matters
- Appear and advocate in state and federal court hearings, motion practice, and trials
- Take and defend depositions; coordinate with retained experts and respond to expert reports
- Negotiate settlements and prepare settlement agreements and releases
- Maintain clear, timely communication with insurer clients, claims professionals, and insureds regarding developments and budgets
- Supervise and mentor junior associates, paralegals, and support staff; assign tasks and review work product
- Manage case budgets, docketing, calendaring, and ensure compliance with court rules and ethics
- Utilize litigation technology and e-discovery tools; prepare trial exhibits and trial binders as needed
Key requirements- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Admission to the New Jersey and/or Pennsylvania bar; admission to relevant Federal District Courts strongly preferred
- 3+ years of civil litigation experience with substantial insurance defense and personal injury exposure
- Experience handling premises liability, construction defects, security claims, toxic exposure, professional liability, and other personal injury matters
- Track record of motion practice, taking and defending depositions, and courtroom appearances; trial experience preferred
- Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy; experience drafting motions, pleadings, and settlement agreements
- Clean disciplinary record and ability to travel regionally for court appearances and depositions
