Global Trade Compliance Director & Counsel

Overview

In this role you lead nVent's global trade compliance program, setting strategy, governance, risk assessment and continuous improvement. You translate laws into practical processes, partner with stakeholders to embed controls, and oversee training and communications. You drive global regulatory readiness across import, export, sanctions, and related areas, including acquisitions and product changes. You will build and guide a high-performing team, align with Ethics and Compliance leadership, and report on program effectiveness and risk to executives. This position offers a chance to shape compliance at a global scale within a mission-driven organization.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and evolve the global trade compliance program: strategy, governance, risk assessments, policies, controls, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide legal guidance and operational execution for trade compliance, translating laws into standardized business processes.
  • Assess regulatory developments affecting the business and implement required changes promptly.
  • Develop and resource a high-performing global trade compliance team.
  • Embed trade compliance into business processes, systems, and decision-making.
  • Oversee risk-based training and communications to raise awareness and reinforce controls.
  • Establish and monitor controls for screening, sanctions, embargoes, and end-use/end-user restrictions.
  • Direct due diligence and integration for acquisitions, divestitures, new products and markets, and supply-chain changes.
  • Manage government inquiries, audits, investigations, disclosures, and remediation; oversee corrective actions.
  • Develop analytics and reporting to measure program effectiveness, identify trends, and communicate risks to leadership.
Key requirements
  • Juris Doctor
  • 8+ years in international trade compliance within a global organization
  • Experience leading a global team and program
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, engineering, or complex global supply-chain operations
  • Experience with customs authorities and government investigations/audits
  • Expert knowledge of global trade laws and regulations (CBP, BIS, OFAC, DDTC or similar)
  • Strong knowledge of US, Latin America, EU, EMEA/I, APAC import/export regulations
  • Strong executive communication and change-management skills
  • Ability to translate complex trade laws into practical controls
  • Knowledge of government procurement and Buy America Act (preferred but not required)
