Overview

In this role you lead medium-to-large electrical infrastructure projects focused on substation construction, guiding delivery from planning through commissioning while ensuring safety, schedule, budget, and quality. You will coordinate multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders to meet regulatory standards and project targets. The position offers impact through technical oversight, risk management, and close client collaboration in a dynamic, safety-focused environment.

Responsibilities
  • Lead electrical construction projects from initiation to closeout, including substation design-build and construction
  • Develop and drive schedules and budgets; forecast costs and manage cash flow to meet targets
  • Oversee procurement, contractor selection, subcontractor management, and vendor relations; negotiate contracts and manage change orders
  • Provide technical oversight for electrical/substation construction, review drawings/specs/test plans, and commissioning procedures
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies, HSE programs, utility standards, codes (NEC, NESC), and regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate site activities, sequencing, resource allocation, and progress tracking to mitigate delays and risks
  • Serve as primary client/stakeholder contact; present status reports and risk assessments to leadership and customers
  • Implement quality control processes, inspection regimes, and punch-list management to meet project requirements
  • Lead commissioning, energization, turnover activities, testing, documentation, and training for operations teams
  • Mentor and supervise project engineers, construction supervisors, and field personnel; promote continuous improvement and best practices
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline; advanced degree preferred
  • 7+ years in electrical construction with at least 5 years in project management; substations experience required
  • Proven substation project management experience including design review, construction methods, protection & control, and commissioning
  • PMP certification or equivalent preferred
  • Strong knowledge of NEC, NESC, IEEE, utility practices, and regulatory permitting
  • Experience with project controls tools (Primavera P6, MS Project, SAP or equivalent) and cost estimating/scheduling
  • Track record managing budgets, contracts, change management, and claims avoidance
  • Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
  • Safety-focused with certifications (e.g., OSHA 30) and ability to enforce HSE standards on site
  • Willingness to travel; valid driver's license
  • Preferred: Professional Engineer (PE) license; experience with EPC or utility transmission projects
