Overview In this senior role, you will lead cost projections, bid development, and contract negotiation for major highway, roadway, and airport projects. You will ensure Caltrans and FAA compliance while coordinating with subcontractors and vendors to secure competitive pricing. You'll manage takeoffs, pricing, and post-bid tracking to support timely, high-quality public bids. This position is a key player in delivering infrastructure work in Southern California and supporting the company's public works objectives. You will work closely with project teams to translate specifications into accurate estimates and winning proposals.
Responsibilities- Review Caltrans standards, plans, and provisions to build compliant public works bids
- Compute detailed costs for heavy highway infrastructure, including excavation, backfill, paving, and subgrades
- Estimate airport infrastructure including FAA-compliant runways, taxiways, and utilities
- Lead quantity takeoffs, analyze plans, and meet tender deadlines
- Apply crew-based estimating techniques for labor, equipment, and logistics costs
- Coordinate with DBE/UDBE subcontractors and vendors for competitive pricing while meeting contract goals
- Track costs by reviewing historical data and monitoring material price changes
Key requirements- 10+ years of heavy civil estimating and project management experience with Caltrans highway and airport projects
- Deep familiarity with Caltrans specifications, FAA regulations, and California bidding procedures
- Proficiency in Hard Dollar or HCSS HeavyBid, Primavera P6, and Microsoft Excel
- Successful clearance of physical ability test and pre-employment drug/alcohol screening
