Associate Director, Orthopaedics Administration

Overview

In this role you will lead administrative and financial support for the Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation unit, enabling faculty and program leadership to focus on core activities. You will manage budgets, optimize operations, and coordinate with service providers to align unit needs with university policies. You'll address operational challenges and drive communication across departments, contributing to the broader mission of Yale. This position offers impact through strong internal controls, strategic planning, and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities
  • Provide integrated administrative services across academic, financial, research, and clinical functions, serving as the unit's primary liaison with internal service providers
  • Partner with unit leadership to develop and monitor financial plans, budgets, and resource utilization
  • Implement and maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with policies and external requirements
  • Foster University-wide engagement by communicating priorities and representing unit needs at LA/University levels
  • Manage talent and development for non-faculty staff, including performance management and HR collaborations
  • Contribute to strategic planning by translating unit strategy into actions and identifying resource needs
  • Handle additional duties as assigned by the department leadership
Key requirements
  • Strong managerial, decision-making, planning, organizational, problem-solving and leadership capabilities with staff management experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication with ability to negotiate across internal and external stakeholders
  • High-level strategic planning skills with ability to set and influence a strategic vision
  • Solid understanding of internal control concepts and experience implementing controls in a complex environment
  • Proven ability to manage time and resources, monitor progress, and adapt as needed
  • Bachelor's degree with five years of related experience including leadership and project management
  • Relationship building and influence in a complex organization
  • Effective cross-functional collaboration
  • Adaptability and proactive problem solving
  • Familiarity with Yale's financial and administrative systems (Workday, YBT)
  • Excel proficiency and experience with financial reporting tools
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize financial information to identify trends and issues
