Overview

In this role you will oversee the design services for large/complex projects, shaping the design process from concept to delivery. You'll lead a design team, refine procedures, and align work with company strategy while managing risks and optimizing performance. This is a hands-on leadership role that partners with internal teams and external A/E partners to deliver high-quality, value-driven design solutions. You will influence constructability, budgeting, and scheduling to drive project success.

Responsibilities
  • Manage design processes from concept to final design for large/complex projects
  • Develop and implement design services procedures, practices, and tools
  • Review contracts for risk and propose design solutions early
  • Oversee partnerships with A/E teams from contract execution to delivery
  • Lead design meetings and align team priorities
  • Conduct design/technical reviews to reduce issues related to cost, procurement, or constructability
  • Develop value management practices and procedures
  • Provide design personnel support to project teams, trade partners, and clients
  • Ensure alignment with department strategy, vision, and business goals
  • Monitor budgets, resources, and risks; perform regular financial analysis
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration and maintain stakeholder partnerships
  • Direct talent planning, coaching, and performance evaluations
  • Identify opportunities and participate in pursuits/business development
  • Lead pursuit activities, proposals, interviews, and industry events
Key requirements
  • 10+ years of construction management experience
  • Extensive experience with design-build delivery
  • Proven ability in design-build project management, budgeting, scheduling, and QA/QC
  • Experience implementing design procedures and standards across teams
  • Understanding of legal aspects of design
  • Knowledge of construction PM control systems (scheduling, cost, procurement, estimating)
  • Experience leading high-performance teams
  • Knowledge of green design and sustainable construction methods
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills with CM software; experience with AutoCAD and/or Revit; BIM/VDC familiarity
