Overview In this role you guide complex plaintiff-side birth injury matters from intake through resolution, shaping case strategy to secure favorable outcomes for families. You work with medical experts and support staff to build persuasive cases, handling all litigation stages from pleadings to trial when needed. You will collaborate closely with paralegals and firm leadership on catastrophic injury claims, maintaining clear, compassionate communication with clients throughout emotionally challenging proceedings. This position offers meaningful impact by advocating for families and coordinating across medical and legal teams to establish causation and damages.
Responsibilities- Lead birth injury plaintiff-side matters from intake to resolution and develop strategic plans
- Review medical records, assess liability and damages to determine claim strength
- Prepare litigation documents (complaints, motions, discovery, demand packages) with strong legal analysis
- Conduct and defend depositions of clients, healthcare professionals, fact witnesses, and experts
- Collaborate with medical specialists to establish causation and standard-of-care breaches
- Advocate for clients in mediations, settlements, court appearances, and trials as needed
- Oversee case deadlines, filings, and compliance with Maryland court rules
- Maintain regular, thoughtful communication with clients and families
- Coordinate with paralegals, legal staff, and firm leadership on catastrophic injury and high-value claims
Key requirements- experienced attorney/lawyer in plaintiff-side litigation
- birth injury and malpractice experience is preferred
