Overview In this role you ensure clinical accuracy and regulatory compliance within the laboratory. You perform specialized molecular, cytogenomic, and flow cytometry procedures, maintain and calibrate instruments, and manage QC activities. You collaborate with supervisors and pathologists to interpret results and communicate critical findings, while contributing to performance improvement and inventory control. Responsibilities- Perform clinical/technical/service/administrative tasks
- Carry out molecular pathology, tumor cytogenomics, and flow cytometry procedures per policy
- Maintain and document instrument maintenance and remedial actions
- Execute QC and calibration procedures; log and verify results in LIS; sign QC logs
- Sign QC logs and ensure QC records are complete and accessible per schedule
- Maintain regulatory records (card files, requisitions, LIS data, statistics)
- Consult with Supervisor or Pathologist on important, conflicting, or out-of-range results; note sample issues
- Review critical results by repeat analysis when needed and communicate to nursing staff/physician; notify Supervisor/Pathologist in extreme cases; log Critical Value communications in LIS
- Prioritize work to meet turnaround times; notify if test cannot be performed or is delayed
- Assist in inventory control to ensure supplies, reagents, and consumables are available and stored properly
- Participate in projects/duties assigned by Supervisor/Lab Management
- Take initiative to resolve instrument problems and seek alternative testing options
- Use downtime to support department goals and assist where needed
- Demonstrate knowledge to provide patient care appropriate to age groups served
- May perform other duties as assigned
- Participate in performance improvement activities
- Maintain patient/employee confidentiality and comply with safety policies
- Participate in competency and proficiency testing and report results
- Follow safety procedures and use PPE; dispose of contaminated waste per policy
- Wear hospital ID badge at all times
Key requirements- B.S. in Medical Technology or equivalent to meet NYS DOH technologist standards
- 0-1 year experience
- Licensing: Clinical Laboratory Technologist issued by DOH / Office of Professions
- ASCP preferred or NCA certification
