Section Manager - Water Construction

Overview

In this role you lead the GLR Water Construction section, directing coordinators, assistant construction managers and project managers to deliver EPC/Design-Build work. You drive profitable growth, oversee planning and execution, and uphold safety, quality and community relations. You collaborate with regional practice managers to win work and ensure on-time, on-budget project delivery. You shape a high-performance team aligned with Burns & McDonnell values and mission.

Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership to Construction team and coordinate staff assignments
  • Drive profitable growth by aligning staffing with project needs and billable goals
  • Lead project planning, estimating, cost control and schedule to meet objectives
  • Ensure safe, quality, compliant project execution and controls
  • Communicate project status, risks, and financials to stakeholders
  • Manage budgets, cash flow forecasting, and reporting
  • Collaborate with business development, proposal teams and HR on staffing and proposals
  • Conduct safety, quality, progress, and financial audits
  • Develop and execute projects/programs and recruit/key staff
  • Foster relationships with external clients and internal teams
  • Maintain Burns & McDonnell Safety program and Live Safer culture
  • Support change management and implementation of regional/global initiatives
  • Mentor and develop staff through training and career development tools
  • Oversee procurement, risk management and project controls
  • Represent the project to governmental, industry and community entities
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, construction, or related field
  • 5 years of related professional experience in design and/or project management
  • Leadership or management experience preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to influence, lead, and manage change
  • Strong project management skills and strategic thinking
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Travel willingness (25%)
