Overview As a Resident Engineer, you oversee field construction to ensure projects meet design, budget, and schedule. You coordinate with contractors and stakeholders to resolve issues while upholding standards and safety. You contribute to constructability reviews, client communications, and project reporting, working closely with design teams and regulatory bodies. This role places you at the center of on-site delivery, driving quality, compliance, and timely completion in a purpose-driven, inclusive environment.

Responsibilities- Oversee day-to-day field construction to ensure alignment with design, budget, and schedule
- Enforce contractor compliance with plans and specifications
- Coordinate with construction teams and on-site participants to resolve issues without directing methods
- Apply industry, client, and regulatory standards; perform QA/QC and peer reviews
- Prepare portions of CM services proposals and participate in client communications
- Support constructability reviews and construction sequencing during design phases
- Lead Phase III construction management activities, developing procedures and tools
- Act as primary field contact with clients, regulators, and third parties; represent the firm at meetings and public hearings
- Manage field office document control and record keeping
- Review material test reports for specification compliance; identify risks or potential claims
- Organize and chair project progress meetings; review plans and shop drawings for problems
- Ensure accurate inspection reports and log non-conformances and change orders
- Prepare trend reporting on construction progress and change management issues
- Assist with post-construction deliverables, final inspections, warranties, and invoicing
- Supervise and guide Inspectors on low to medium complexity projects
- Perform other duties as required; support Phase III Practice Leader with site visits and mentoring
- Mentor field staff to improve work habits and maintain work-life balance
- Assist with project assignments and proposal preparation
Key requirements- Minimum 7 years of related experience
- Illinois Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- Experience managing construction for IDOT, CCDOTH, Tollway, or similar agencies preferred
- Proficient in construction management software (e.g., TUC, CMMS)
- Ability to lead, coordinate, and communicate with clients and agencies
- Strong time management, budgeting, and resource planning capabilities
- Knowledge of construction standards and contract/bid package scope
- IDOT documentation and materials certifications preferred
