Overview As Architectural Specification Writer at Dewberry, you will lead the development of project specifications and manuals, ensuring design intent and quality control across projects. You'll collaborate with multiple teams nationwide, select materials, and coordinate with consultants to align specifications with code and standards. You'll apply technical research to support product decisions, support construction administration, and contribute to firm standards. This role offers growth through subject-matter expertise and involvement in innovative, complex projects.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with project teams and consultants to refine construction documents, drawings, and specifications
- Oversee preparation of Project Manuals for projects of varying scale
- Prepare and review procurement and contracting requirements (Division 0 and 1) and coordinate with technical sections
- Review drawings and documents to determine specification scope and needs
- Coordinate compliance with project requirements, standards, codes, and regulations
- Write and edit architectural outline specifications and 3-part specifications following CSI MasterFormat
- Perform QC of design drawings for accuracy and coordination with specifications (BlueBeam or similar)
- Assist with product/material selection and constructability analysis
- Incorporate sustainable design solutions and coordinate with engineers and consultants
- Provide specification support during Construction Administration and evaluate substitutions, submittals, and RFIs
- Develop and improve document standards, procedures, and staff education on specifications and materials
- Build and maintain relationships with product representatives and stay current with industry trends
- Act as a technical resource for questions, reviews, and material selections
Key requirements- Excellent written and verbal communication, organization, and analytical skills
- Strong knowledge of architectural design, building systems, and construction methodology
- Ability to discern design intent from programs, drawings, and narratives
- Experience collaborating with designers and managers on product selections
- Knowlege of project delivery methods, procurement models, codes, and contracts
- General understanding of civil, structural, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems
- Ability to research and translate findings into technical documents
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Leading project tasks with minimal supervision
- Experience with public sector projects is a plus
- Valid driver's license and ability to pass background checks
