Overview As an IP Research Information Scientist at Abbott Park, you will strengthen the company's patent and competitive landscape by researching scientific and patent literature, applying analytics and AI, and delivering insights to inform IP strategy. You'll work within the Abbott Research Center to develop search strategies, identify priorities, and present findings to cross-functional teams. This role focuses on enabling strategic decisions, risk management, and innovation through advanced information management. You will engage with Legal, R&D, and ARC colleagues to support product development and business objectives.

Responsibilities- Conduct FTO, patentability, and other IP research projects to support business units
- Develop and implement patent search strategies and communicate insights to attorneys and stakeholders
- Identify emerging technologies and patent trends to inform strategy and opportunities
- Apply data science, analytics, AI, NLP, visualization to patent and competitive intelligence challenges
- Create visualizations, dashboards, landscapes, and deliverables for strategic decision-making
- Evaluate new IP research technologies, including AI-enabled tools, to improve research effectiveness
- Assess technologies, patent portfolios, and third-party IP relevant to Abbott products
- Partner with cross-functional teams across Legal, R&D, and ARC to support innovation and risk management initiatives
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in a scientific or engineering field
- Minimum 3 years patent and/or scientific literature searching experience in biotech/pharma/medical devices/healthcare
- Minimum 3 years analyzing competitive intelligence and developing IP strategy
