Overview In this role you will serve as Assistant Director of the Laboratory Section of Clinical Chemistry, contributing to diagnostic service, quality systems, education, and translational research. You will lead clinical chemistry operations alongside the Director, participate in medical education and scholarly activity, and build a translational research program. The position supports UI Health clinical programs and interdisciplinary collaboration. This is an open-rank faculty opportunity with potential for tenure based on experience and funding.

Responsibilities- Provide diagnostic services in Clinical Chemistry and ensure quality across preanalytic, analytic, and post-analytic stages
- Select and validate quality test systems for accuracy and method verification
- Develop and monitor yearly quality measures and efficiency improvements
- Oversee proficiency testing enrollment, participation, and results
- Maintain and update quality control/assurance programs and remedial actions
- Ensure manuals and policies are current and reviewed annually
- Provide medical education in Clinical Chemistry and teach students, residents, and fellows
- Engage in translational, basic, and/or clinical research and collaborate on departmental projects
- Mentor medical students, residents and fellows in research
- Participate in continuing education programs for staff and clinicians
- Establish and maintain a translational research program at UI C
- Contribute to interdepartmental and cross-institutional research collaborations
- Support departmental goals through assigned tasks by Clinical Pathology leadership
Key requirements- PhD, MD, or DO
- Board certification in Clinical Chemistry (for PhD holders) or Chemical Pathology/Clinical Chemistry certification (for MD/DO holders)
