Overview

As Claims Manager at Starr, you steer the handling of primary and excess general liability claims across the U.S., balancing timely coverage analysis with strategic reserve evaluation. You lead claim quality, settlements, and practical outcomes to control indemnity and expenses. You communicate findings to management, underwriters, and reinsurers, shaping decisions on losses impacting Starr's policies. You build strong relationships with profit centers and maintain professional interactions with policyholders and brokers up to the C-Suite. Responsibilities
  • Directly manage an active inventory of general liability claims for Starr's profit centers
  • Perform coverage analysis, liability and damages investigations, and reserve evaluations
  • Strategically manage claims handling quality, settlements, and dispositions for cost-effective outcomes
  • Provide timely written and oral updates to Claims management, underwriters, and reinsurers on losses
  • Cultivate relationships with profit centers and stakeholders
  • Ensure professional interactions with policyholders, brokers, and leaders up to the C-Suite
Key requirements
  • At least 10 years of experience in managing or overseeing primary and/or excess casualty claims
  • Strong litigation management and negotiation capabilities
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills
  • Self-starter with initiative and ability to develop and execute creative solutions
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to work across disciplines (Underwriting, Claims Operations, etc.)
  • Customer service orientation for internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to reprioritize in a fast-paced environment
  • Innovative and growth-oriented mindset
  • Travel may be required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Law degree preferred; corporate risk management background a plus
