Overview As a Senior Underwriter, you will independently underwrite energy accounts within delegated authority, shaping pricing and terms for complex oil & gas, pipelines, power and renewables in North America. You will manage broker and client portfolios, translate technical data into actionable risk decisions, and collaborate across claims, actuarial, engineering and legal teams. You contribute to pricing strategy, appetite setting and product improvement while mentoring junior underwriters. Responsibilities- Underwrite energy accounts within delegated authority for complex or high line-size risks.
- Manage broker/agent and client relationships; source and underwrite profitable energy business.
- Assess exposures using loss histories, engineering reports, operational data and modelling; set terms, limits, deductibles, and reinsurance needs.
- Underwrite property, BI/DSU, third party liability, pollution/environmental, construction/EPC and energy-related cyber/OT risks.
- Provide portfolio analytics to inform pricing, appetite, and marketing plans.
- Maintain senior broker relationships and communicate coverage and risk appetite clearly.
- Collaborate with Claims, Actuarial, Engineering, Legal and UW Support; contribute to improvement and product development projects.
- Mentor junior underwriters and represent the company at industry events.
Key requirements- Degree in Business or equivalent
- Minimum 2.5-3+ years of progressive underwriting experience
- CPCU or professional designation preferred
- Strong analytical ability to evaluate underwriting risks and use qualitative/quantitative tools
- Ability to handle complex technical underwriting issues and implement workflows
