Overview In this Senior Biologist role, you will lead multidisciplinary teams to support siting, permitting, and licensing for energy, transportation, and development projects in southern California. You'll blend field biology expertise with regulatory strategy to deliver CEQA/NEPA analyses and permit packages, guiding clients through complex environmental processes. The position offers both field and office work, with opportunities to mentor staff and drive proposals and business development. You'll work closely with regulators, clients, and internal teams to achieve compliant, high-quality outcomes in a dynamic, mission-driven firm.

Responsibilities- Manage projects, supervise staff, mentor field teams, and support project managers on renewable energy, oil and gas, and other developments
- Lead field tasks such as species surveys, nesting bird surveys, vegetation assessments, waters delineations, and compliance monitoring
- Provide guidance, training, coaching, and mentoring to junior staff
- Plan, prepare, and review technical reports and environmental assessments
- Support business development, including defining scope, cost, and contributing sections of proposals
- Coordinate with clients and regulators to communicate survey results and reports
- Lead development of permitting strategies and agency negotiations
- Contribute to new business opportunities and effective technical proposals
- Maintain target 75-80% direct project utilization
- Occasional overnight travel within and outside southern California
Key requirements- Biologist or natural resources management specialist with a bachelor's degree (master's preferred) in Biological Sciences, Environmental Science, Ecology, or related field
- Minimum 10 years of related experience with increasing responsibility in biological resources surveys and reporting
- Experience in project management, impact assessment, and mitigation strategy development
- Strong written/verbal communication and organizational skills
- Business development experience and client/regulator relationship capabilities
- Experience with flora, fauna, and vegetative communities of southern California; botanical and wildlife surveys
- Experience with regulatory permitting (CEQA/NEPA, CWA, FESA/CESA, MBTA/BGEPA, etc.)
- GPS/GIS data collection and mapping; regulatory permit applications (e.g., 404/401, ITPs)
