Overview

As an Executive Risk Solution Specialist, you will advance Markel's property, inland marine, and ocean marine risk control efforts through hands-on assessments and strategic collaboration. You'll partner with Underwriting to grow a profitable book and support loss control with data-driven reports and guidelines. You'll conduct on-site, virtual, and desktop risk evaluations for complex accounts, communicating clear risk and control recommendations. This role offers meaningful impact by shaping risk strategies across multiple lines and mentoring others, with opportunities to apply technical expertise in a global, problem-solving environment.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct on-site, virtual, and desktop risk assessments for Property, IM & Ocean Marine accounts
  • Identify risks, exposures, and controls to aid underwriting and reduce loss likelihood
  • Write detailed risk assessment reports with clear recommendations
  • Develop and maintain risk control reports, forms, and guidelines
  • Train team members, underwriters, and insureds on risk concepts and controls
  • Collaborate on multi-line surveys and special projects to benefit loss control
  • Support risk control vendor management and quality control
  • Manage workload independently and maintain documentation; travel 25%
Key requirements
  • 6+ years of Property, IM & Ocean Marine loss control/risk management experience
  • Strong knowledge of Property, IM & Ocean Marine coverages and exposures
  • Proficiency in evaluating fire protection systems and standards (NFPA, FM Global, IBC)
  • Technical skills in risk management software and MS Office
  • Bachelor's degree; professional certifications (P.E., CSP, ARM, CFPS) preferred or willingness to pursue
