Overview In this role you support the People team and senior business leaders across Green Thumb's multi-state operations with practical, business-focused employment guidance. You will manage the full employee lifecycle matters, from hiring and onboarding to performance, leaves, accommodations, and separations, while mitigating risk. You'll own EEOC and agency matters through resolution and coordinate with the litigation team as needed. This position combines legal precision with partnership across functions to enable fast, compliant business outcomes in a regulated industry.

Responsibilities- Serve as the dedicated employment law advisor to People and other business partners across multi-state operations, providing risk-balanced guidance across the employee lifecycle.
- Advise on internal investigations involving misconduct, discrimination, harassment, and retaliation to ensure lawful and values-aligned outcomes.
- Own EEOC and agency complaint processes end-to-end, including drafting statements and coordinating fact-gathering.
- Collaborate with the Associate General Counsel - Litigation for escalated matters to ensure consistent strategy.
- Serve as advisor on complex employee benefits escalations and identify emerging legal risks requiring action.
- Advise People on complex leaves of absence and accommodations across states, ensuring compliance with federal and state requirements.
- Draft and maintain employment policies and templates used by People and Talent Acquisition.
- Design and deliver practical employment law training for managers and People team on high-risk areas.
- Stay current on employment law developments and translate them into actionable guidance for partners.
- Collaborate with Labor counsel to support labor relations strategy and union matters.
- Monitor trends and drive corrective action in complaints, investigations, and exits.
- Own and maintain the employee handbook and state addenda, reflecting regulatory changes across jurisdictions.
Key requirements- J.D. from an accredited law school with active bar admission in the state of residence or in-house counsel eligibility
- 6+ years of employment law experience, in-house preferred
- Strong knowledge of discrimination, leave, wage and hour, and employee relations law across federal, state, and local levels
- Experience navigating multi-state compliance; cannabis or other regulated industry experience a plus
- Ability to partner with outside counsel effectively
- Excellent written and oral communication; strong analytical and decision-making under time pressure
- Independent, proactive work style with strong business sense and risk assessment
- Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and a dispersed Legal team
