Overview

As Senior Urban Designer, you lead all phases of the design process with expertise, guiding project teams to align with firm goals and design excellence. You collaborate across client and civic stakeholders, shaping scope, budgets, and public engagement to deliver impactful urban projects. You drive design strategies for urban frameworks and systems, leveraging both sketching and digital tools to communicate and refine concepts. You mentor staff and foster cross-disciplinary collaboration to sustain high performance. This role offers meaningful impact through community-centered design and leadership in a respected, inclusive practice.

Responsibilities
  • Define and control project scope, schedule, and work plan to guide the team and client
  • Develop, validate, and negotiate project scope, budget, and services during marketing and contracts
  • Lead client and public discussions, present design proposals, and foster stakeholder engagement
  • Coordinate deliverables, review zoning and policy requirements, and integrate them into design
  • Develop strategic design options and documentation (maps, master plans, guidelines, client-ready materials)
  • Monitor team performance against quality and design standards; mentor staff
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external consultants; maintain open team communication
  • Perform site analysis, quantitative and qualitative research, and produce design drawings using analog and digital methods
  • Lead discussions with public officials and the community to educate and inform project plans
  • Support marketing opportunities and contribute to achieving financial goals
Key requirements
  • 8-10+ years of relevant experience
  • Professional licensure not required but strongly preferred
  • AICP certification
  • LEED GA within 6 months of hire
  • Professional accreditation in Living Design (e.g., LEED AP Specialty, WELL AP, SITES AP, etc.)
