Overview As a Senior Estimator at Stantec, you will develop and coordinate capital cost estimates for mining and mineral processing projects. You'll lead cross-disciplinary estimation teams and manage multi-million to multi-billion dollar programs across global sites. You'll guide estimate methodology, risk assessment, and deliverables for study and execution phases, contributing to Stantec's mission to advance clean energy and infrastructure. Responsibilities- Supervise multi-discipline cost estimates and construction schedules to ensure timely completion
- Lead mining studies and program-level estimating efforts (PEA, PFS, FS, execution-stage, sustaining capital, portfolio-level)
- Develop detailed estimates for mining, process plant, civil, structural, mechanical, piping, electrical, tailings, water management, and site utilities
- Collaborate with other estimators to develop estimates and schedules
- Coordinate input parameters and validate material takeoffs and quantities from drawings
- Assemble information from all disciplines into a single cost estimate
- Create estimate execution plans detailing strategy, scope assumptions, methodologies, staffing, and schedules
- Prepare labor-force work plans and basis of estimate reports
- Establish site-specific estimating criteria and wage/productivity rates
- Perform quality control of documents and propose design improvements
- Support procurement, quotations, change orders, and claims valuation
- Prepare construction logistics plans and provide innovative estimating solutions
- Interface with management and clients on estimating tasks
- Identify risks and opportunities and contribute to cost/schedule risk analyses
- Review designs to identify pricing risks and opportunities; coordinate constructability reviews
Key requirements- Extensive knowledge of cost/estimating, construction practice, and engineering standards
- Experience estimating mining and mineral processing projects across open pit, underground, process plants, tailings, water management, and site infrastructure
- Proven ability to lead large studies and coordinate multi-disciplinary estimates
- Multi-discipline estimating experience (civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, piping, etc.)
- Understanding of contract methods and their impact on estimating
- Experience with InEight, Sage Timberline, On-Screen Take-Off, MCASES MII, IPE, HCSS or similar tools
- Experience with scheduling software (Primavera P6, MS Project)
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally
- Ability to mentor team members in estimating techniques
- Strong client-facing skills and communication
- Bachelor's degree as stated; 10+ years of relevant experience; mining project experience preferred; professional certifications are a plus
