Overview

As a Kubernetes Architect, you will lead design and operational strategy for enterprise Kubernetes platforms across air-gapped and cloud environments, guiding secure, compliant platform engineering for mission-critical government systems. You'll act as a technical SME, shaping architecture, automation, and modernization efforts while aligning with federal security requirements. You'll collaborate across cybersecurity, infrastructure, and development teams to deliver scalable, resilient solutions that enable secure workloads. This role offers impact through governance, repeatable deployment patterns, and cross-functional leadership.

Responsibilities
  • Lead design, implementation, and long-term ops strategy for enterprise Kubernetes platforms supporting federal missions.
  • Architect, build, and maintain NKP environments across on-prem air-gapped and AWS cloud.
  • Establish secure cluster foundations: networking, storage, identity, lifecycle, and governance aligned to federal compliance.
  • Design cloud-native infra with IaC, automating deployment and management using Terraform.
  • Architect and deploy Amazon EKS including VPC design, IAM/RBAC, networking, high availability, and secure ingress.
  • Develop scalable, compliant deployment workflows and platform standards.
  • Operationalize platform stability, tenant management, and shared services within Kubernetes.
  • Oversee platform operations: change management, upgrades, access controls, monitoring, security hardening, capacity, and performance.
  • Serve as SME, provide architectural guidance and best practices to engineering, DevSecOps, and apps teams.
  • Create reference architectures, runbooks, deployment patterns, and onboarding approaches.
  • Translate Kubernetes concepts into actionable guidance for stakeholders and teams.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity, infra, networking, and development to ensure secure operations.
  • Support modernization involving containerization, CI/CD, DevSecOps, and cloud-native transformations.
  • Ensure compliance with federal cybersecurity standards and governance processes.
  • Develop & maintain technical docs, diagrams, runbooks, deployment standards, and procedures.
Key requirements
  • 10+ years in infrastructure engineering, cloud architecture, DevOps, or platform engineering.
  • 5+ years hands-on Kubernetes architecture/administration in enterprise or mission-critical environments.
  • Deep expertise in Kubernetes, NKP, EKS, Terraform, IaC, and container orchestration.
  • Experience designing and supporting Kubernetes platforms in air-gapped and cloud environments.
  • Strong AWS networking, IAM/RBAC, VPCs/subnets/routing/security groups, Kubernetes networking/ingress, storage, and cluster lifecycle.
  • Experience implementing secure, compliant Kubernetes environments in regulated organizations.
  • Strong understanding of DevSecOps, CI/CD, automation, and container security practices.
  • Experience operating multi-tenant enterprise Kubernetes platforms.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, performance optimization, and reliability skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; able to explain complex concepts to diverse audiences.
  • US citizenship with active Top Secret clearance and ability to obtain a Q/SCI clearance.
