Overview As a Senior Underwriter focused on construction casualty, you drive profitable growth in the Midwest by applying deep risk knowledge to complex accounts. You'll work in the field with agency and broker partners, shaping underwriting strategies and pricing while expanding a high-quality book of business. You'll lead and mentor teammates, contribute to marketing plans, and continuously seek improvements to processes and risk selection. This role blends technical underwriting with relationship-building to support our construction specialty portfolio.
Responsibilities- Risk selection, underwriting, and pricing of construction casualty accounts; negotiate terms and present proposals to agents/brokers
- Manage relationships with Key Agents and Brokers; support objectives and develop a strong pipeline
- Oversee a sizable, complex book of business; implement marketing plans to grow market share
- Document deal rationale with compliant, well-supported account reviews and referrals
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and skill development to underwriters and analysts
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and problem-solving activities to support the team
Key requirements- Related bachelor's degree; 3-10 years of relevant experience preferred
- CPCU or professional insurance designation strongly preferred
- Intermediate knowledge of insurance products, underwriting, pricing, risk selection, and market segments
- Ability to apply underwriting tools and resources to achieve goals and negotiate effectively
