Overview

In this Principal role, you lead and shape complex data center projects, guiding portfolio management, reliability, and risk optimization across planning, design, construction, and operations. You'll grow the construction consulting business by cultivating client relationships and cross-practice collaboration. You'll set strategic direction, mentor teams, and promote Exponent's expertise through thought leadership. This role offers impact by advancing resilient, mission-critical facilities and data center strategies.

Responsibilities
  • Lead complex data center projects and programs focusing on portfolio management, reliability, risk identification, and performance optimization
  • Develop and manage new client relationships in collaboration with other practices
  • Provide strategic planning to identify and secure new business opportunities and promote Exponent's offerings
  • Generate revenue to build a profitable consulting team
  • Serve as main liaison between clients and Exponent
  • Oversee delivery quality and performance of the team and services
  • Advise on construction advisory areas: portfolio, program, project management; scheduling; process improvements; governance; risk management; data analytics; change management; dispute avoidance
  • Recruit, develop, and mentor staff in construction advisory consulting
  • Promote Exponent's expertise through client meetings, conferences, publications, and seminars
Key requirements
  • MBA or MS in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or Business Administration
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in construction management and project advisory
  • Extensive experience in construction advisory including portfolio, program, and project management; scheduling; risk management; data analytics; change management; dispute avoidance
  • Experience supporting or advising on mission-critical infrastructure (data centers, energy systems, large-scale facilities) with focus on reliability and performance optimization
  • Proven business development and client management track record to attract projects
