Overview In this role you will lead chemistry-focused R&D efforts to develop cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization solutions for medical instruments. You will work with cross-functional teams to translate research into validated products, ensuring regulatory compliance and quality. You'll design experiments, analyze data, and deliver technical reports that inform product development and improvements. This position combines independent project leadership with collaborative problem solving to advance ASP's mission of protecting patients.
Compensation / Benefits Responsibilities- Plan and execute research projects for new technologies in cleaning, disinfection, or sterilization
- Develop protocols from feasibility to validation
- Manage laboratory studies and generate technical reports
- Conduct qualitative and quantitative chemistry analysis and data interpretation
- Support method development, equipment validation, and process improvements
- Troubleshoot instrumentation and coordinate equipment qualifications
- Provide training to junior staff and lead cross-functional collaborations
- Travel 10-20% domestically or internationally
- Support investigations related to nonconformances and quality events
- Coordinate and review work of others and drive process efficiencies
Key requirements- Bachelor in Chemistry or related field with 5+ years of applicable experience, or Master in Chemistry or related field with 3+ years, or Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field with 0-2 years
- Experience in Medical Device or other GxP-regulated industry
- Hands-on laboratory experience in analytical or formulation chemistry
- Experience leading R&D chemistry projects and independently executing scientific work
- Strong understanding of laboratory safety and compliance
- Knowledge of sterilization, disinfection, and cleaning technologies for medical devices (preferred)
- Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
- Self-driven with strong problem-solving and independent work capability
- Experience in method development, validation, and transfer (preferred)
- Publication and/or patent track record (preferred)
- Understanding of QSR, FDA, and ISO guidelines (preferred)
