Overview In this role you lead the preconstruction and estimating function for a growing heavy civil contractor, focusing on bridge and public infrastructure pursuits. You will shape competitive bids, guide the estimating team, and align with executive leadership on growth strategy. You handle complex opportunities, drive risk-based pricing, and oversee bid processes from review to submission. You will collaborate across operations and business development to strengthen client relationships and project backlog. Responsibilities- Evaluate bidding opportunities and prioritize pursuits
- Lead the estimating process from opportunity review through bid submission
- Develop estimating schedules and allocate resources
- Direct estimate reviews and oversee bid-day activities
- Identify project risks and develop pricing strategies
- Lead estimating for Design-Build and Joint Venture opportunities
- Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and industry partners
- Coordinate estimating handoff during post-award transition to operations
- Recruit, mentor, and develop estimating staff
- Collaborate with project management, operations, and executive leadership
- Support business development initiatives and client relationships
- Continuously improve estimating procedures, systems, and best practices
Key requirements- 15+ years in heavy civil, bridge, or transportation construction
- Previous leadership roles in estimating (Chief Estimator, Estimating Manager, etc)
- Track record of complex public infrastructure estimates valued at $50M+
- Strong leadership, communication, and team development skills
- Experience with estimating software such as HCSS HeavyBid, B2W, Primavera P6, or MS Project
- Design-Build and Joint Venture estimating experience is highly desirable
