Overview As part of the St-Pierre lab, you will advance optical neuroscience by characterizing light-sensitive proteins for brain activity studies. You will work with GEVI reporters and optogenetic silencers, combining electrophysiology with optical imaging to enable millisecond-scale insights. The role offers exposure to cutting-edge optical methods and opportunities to train skills in two-photon voltage imaging and related techniques. You will contribute to high-impact neuroscience research that shapes tool development and application.
Responsibilities- Culture mammalian cells
- Prepare brain slices or dissociated neurons
- Perform experiments combining electrophysiology with optogenetic activation or optical imaging (multi-photon)
- Maintain reagents and tools for the experiments
- Maintain and troubleshoot electrophysiology rig
- Analyze data with commercial software or custom pipelines
- Teach techniques and experimental design to lab members
- Communicate results in meetings and conferences
- Plan, direct, and conduct experiments
- Evaluate and analyze data
- Develop techniques for research projects
- Conduct literature searches and summarize findings
- Document results and report to principal investigators
