Overview In this role you will deliver high-quality civil legal services to low-income clients in north and west Texas. You will handle daily family law representation while pursuing strategic advocacy and community collaboration to expand access to justice. You will engage with survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse, and help build partnerships with local organizations. This is a mission-driven position offering opportunities to shape outreach, education, and systemic change through strategic networks. You will work in a hybrid environment across multiple offices, contributing to LANWT's goal of reducing poverty through civil justice.

Responsibilities- Provide high-quality legal representation to low-income clients in civil matters
- Interview clients and witnesses with cultural competence and trauma-informed practices
- Conduct legal research, gather evidence, and advise on rights and options
- Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other documents
- Represent clients in court and before administrative agencies
- Manage a caseload with significant litigation and advocacy
- Interpret laws and regulations for clients and partners
- Provide family law support (e.g., divorce, child custody, protective orders, child support)
- Work across civil practice areas as needed (housing, consumer, employment, benefits, probate, etc.)
- Develop and participate in community legal education and outreach
- Build relationships with community organizations serving low-income populations
- Collaborate to advance LANWT's mission through strategic advocacy
- Participate in networks serving survivors of sexual assault and trauma
- Refer clients to services within networks; attend evening clinics as needed
- Supervise staff, volunteers, or students as assigned
- Maintain knowledge of grant requirements and comply with program obligations
- Adhere to LANWT policies and professional standards
Key requirements- Licensed to practice law in Texas or awaiting reciprocity approval
- 2 years preferred handling contested family law cases
- Strong understanding of Texas Family Code, Texas Rules of Civil Procedure, and Rules of Evidence
- Prior public interest, legal services, or volunteer experience preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Ability to manage a caseload, think strategically, and implement projects
- Strong work ethic, accountability, and professionalism
- Cultural competence with diverse populations
- Commitment to public interest law and serving low-income communities
- Reliable attendance and ability to travel within LANWT's service area
