Overview

In this role you will lead the Emergency Department to deliver safe, high-quality care, shaping policy and practice in collaboration with nursing leadership and hospital administration. You will drive compliance, process improvement, and staff development to meet patient needs and regulatory standards. You'll oversee education, accreditation readiness, and cross-disciplinary communication to ensure smooth operations and a positive patient experience. This position offers a meaningful opportunity to influence ED care at a major medical center and contribute to community health.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with ED nursing leadership, emergency physicians and APP staff, and hospital administration to ensure the ED care delivery model delivers high-quality emergency care
  • Develop, maintain, update, and implement departmental policies, procedures, and protocols
  • Ensure providers are aware of and compliant with departmental, hospital, and medical staff policies
  • Lead quality assurance and improvement initiatives within the department
  • Contribute to operating and capital budgets for the department
  • Monitor patient experience and patient flow; design and implement process improvements
  • Monitor ED-related regulatory issues and ensure ongoing compliance; educate staff on regulatory requirements
  • Prepare for and participate in accreditation or certification surveys involving the ED
  • Foster effective communication between ED physicians, APPs, and other hospital medical staff; participate in relevant hospital committees
  • Participate in recruitment, credentialing, orientation, and training of ED providers and nursing personnel with HR/legal alignment
  • Engage in risk management activities to identify and mitigate high-risk areas
  • Identify opportunities for ongoing education for ED staff and supervise teaching activities as appropriate
Key requirements
  • Licensed M.D. in the State of Texas
  • Board Certification in Emergency Medicine
  • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) course completion
  • Strong staff management, supervision, teaching, and organizational development skills
  • Clear and professional verbal and written communication
  • Prior leadership experience and administrative skills
