Overview In this role you lead preconstruction for large, complex water and wastewater projects, spanning pursuit through handoff to construction. You drive pursuit strategy, coordinate across operations, estimating and design management, and manage risk and budget to meet contract requirements. You build strong owner and partner relationships and mentor preconstruction staff to strengthen McCarthy's water market position. You'll tackle design gaps, GMP planning, and lifecycle cost considerations with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities- Develop pursuit strategy and network with designers, owners, and partners to win projects
- Lead preconstruction for CMAR and Progressive Design-Build, and fixed-price Design-Build pursuits
- Prepare and oversee preconstruction schedules with internal buy-in and owner/design coordination
- Develop cost estimates at all design milestones (10%-100%) and coordinate Self-Perform estimates
- Lead GMP development, risk identification/mitigation, and budget control during construction
- Interface with owners/designers; present deliverables per guidelines and owner requirements
- Assist in trade partner/vendor prequalification and buyout planning
- Maintain logs for scope issues and action items; coordinate with estimating on pricing
- Provide design decisions support and lifecycle cost considerations
- Develop and train preconstruction staff and manage stakeholder relationships
- Represent McCarthy at industry events and sustain relationships with designers and subcontractors
- Ensure adherence to safety, EEO/affirmative action programs
- Monitor budget vs. actuals, clarify scope and GMP elements with project teams
- Lead communications across operations, estimating and design management
- Maintain knowledge of project cost elements and industry standards
- Attend design and coordination meetings; drive timely deliverables and risk management
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Engineering and/or minimum 10 years of related estimating, design management or field management experience
- Proven track record in preconstruction for large-scale projects ($100M+), with emphasis on complex water/wastewater projects
- Experience managing subcontracts and purchase orders; strong client and partner relationships
- Leadership experience with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders
- Strong communication and presentation skills; ability to influence diverse audiences
- Self-starter with a focus on continuous improvement and value-added preconstruction
