Overview In this role you work within UTMB Health's Laboratory Services to perform and report complex laboratory tests with accuracy. You will ensure data integrity, QC, and timely reporting to support patient care. You collaborate with cross-functional teams and may train staff, contributing to lab efficiency and quality. The job offers exposure to high-complexity testing and opportunities to evaluate new tests and procedures. You will help maintain safety and regulatory compliance while supporting 24/7 patient needs.
Responsibilities- Perform routine and complex lab procedures with accuracy following procedures
- Review lab data and report patient results with proper documentation
- Maintain and evaluate quality control data and document QC performance
- Maintain instruments and troubleshoot equipment as needed
- Identify factors affecting measurements and take corrective actions
- Work independently within guidelines and meet deadlines
- Assist in evaluating new tests/instruments and revising procedures
- Monitor inventory and coordinate with ordering and receiving supplies
- Instruct/train staff and students and assess staff competency
- Communicate information to staff, management, and other divisions
- Cover different shifts to ensure patient care
- Adhere to safety protocols and internal controls
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Basic Science
- No experience required
- Preferred: specialty certification and clinical laboratory generalist experience
- Must obtain certification (ASCP/AMT/ABHI or equivalent) within 12 months of hire
- Qualifies as Testing Personnel for high complexity testing under CLIA
