Overview In this role you will serve as the on-site representative for the School Construction Authority, overseeing multiple construction projects at varying stages. You will coordinate design and construction efforts, ensure quality and compliance, and drive projects to completion on time and within budget. You will work closely with contractors, school personnel, and senior managers to resolve issues and implement efficient processes. Responsibilities- Provide administration and coordination for complex design and construction projects under guidance
- Ensure quality and compliance of design and construction by all consultants and vendors
- Make timely decisions to expedite construction and correct design errors early
- Plan phasing and scheduling; monitor progress to meet timelines and cost targets
- Interface with contractors, construction managers, and school personnel; brief Senior Project Officers
- Develop and issue project procedures; review SCA-wide policies
- Guide and mentor lower-level Project Officers
- Resolve field issues raised by architects and construction staff
- Collaborate with architect/engineer on change orders, contract interpretations, and shop drawings
- Issue directives to enforce contract compliance; assess liquidated damages and enforcement needs
- Use judgement on on-site change orders and negotiate with contractors
- Review contractor claims and prepare documentation for adjudication or denial
- Visit job sites as required; coach team members; foster a positive, inclusive environment
- Perform other related tasks
Key requirements- Bachelor's Degree (4 yr) from an accredited college or university
- 5-10 years as a technical specialist in construction design with managing educational or municipal projects
- 2-4 years experience managing all phases of construction on a scale similar to SCA
- Valid New York State driver's license
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Strong technical and communication skills
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work in a team and collaborate daily with project team
- Ability to set and hold measurable performance goals and hold others accountable
