Senior Estimator - Commercial Construction

Overview

In this role you will lead the prep of detailed estimates and bid packages for commercial projects, partnering with preconstruction and operations to drive winning proposals. You will assess drawings and specs, identify risks, and pursue value engineering to optimize costs. You'll manage subcontractor pricing, maintain pricing databases, and support project handoffs. This position offers growth within a respected GC, with opportunities to shape winning strategies and collaborate across teams.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare detailed estimates, budgets, and bid proposals for commercial projects
  • Analyze drawings, specifications, and documents to develop accurate pricing
  • Identify scope risks and suggest cost-saving/value engineering opportunities
  • Solicit and compare subcontractor and supplier pricing for competitiveness
  • Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and partners
  • Develop bid packages, manage RFIs, and communicate requirements throughout estimating
  • Coordinate with project management and preconstruction during reviews and handoffs
  • Participate in buyout and subcontractor negotiations
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and conceptual estimating across design stages
  • Maintain current labor, material, and subcontractor pricing databases
  • Attend site visits, pre-bid meetings, and project walkthroughs
  • Utilize estimating software and Microsoft Office for documentation
Key requirements
  • 5-8+ years of commercial construction estimating experience with a general contractor
  • Strong ability to interpret architectural and engineering drawings and specs
  • Experience with conceptual estimates, hard bids, negotiated proposals, and design-build budgets
  • Knowledge of construction means, methods, scheduling, and procurement
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and industry-standard estimating software (Sage, BuildingConnected, Bluebeam)
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Self-motivation with ability to manage multiple estimates and meet deadlines
