Overview In this role you lead the database administration team to ensure available, reliable corporate databases for projects and production. You guide data management across project teams to preserve integrity and recoverability. You balance technical leadership with people management, budget, and cross department collaboration. Responsibilities- Oversee daily activities of the database administration staff for project and production databases
- Provide data management guidance to project teams and business users
- Ensure availability and usability of corporate databases aligned with requirements
- Review and approve changes to logical database designs and to corporate databases
- Coordinate with IT, Unix administration, technical support, production automation, and project office
- Assign personnel to projects and guide their activities
- Participate in hiring, promotions, terminations, and staff development decisions
- Advise staff on policies, priorities, and technical problems
- Set and monitor employee career goals; approve training budgets and opportunities
- Prepare and review regular staff performance and development plans
- Represent the department in Production Division management activities
- Develop and maintain a Departmental Mission/Function, Performance Standards, Goals and Objectives
- Publish clear performance reviews and development plans for staff; provide feedback
- Hold regular staff meetings to communicate industry, corporate, and departmental updates
- Foster a high-performing, motivating work environment; promote mobility and career path planning
- Lead or participate in corporate and departmental initiatives
- Provide monthly status reports on departmental objectives and project deliverables
- Maintain current skills inventory and assign tasks to support project goals
- Develop, manage, monitor and revise the departmental operating budget
Key requirements- Broad knowledge of SQL databases (DB2, Sybase, Informix, SQL Server, EDB, Postgres SQL)
- In-depth understanding of how database department fits into the development lifecycle
- Excellent communication, analytical, judgment, and management skills
- Experience with Microsoft Office desktop tools (Project, Word, Excel)
- Experience with multiple DBMS technologies across two or more operating systems
- Strong understanding of database design and documentation tools
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline
- 3+ years managing all areas of a database group
- 7+ years of database and data administration experience
