Overview As Chief Estimator you will lead and finalize tunneling bids, guiding the estimating team from contract review to bid submission. You'll work closely with project leaders to align estimates with project goals and owner requirements, ensuring competitive, compliant proposals. Your role shapes major underground and heavy civil projects, driving accuracy, risk management, and timely bid delivery. This is a high-impact, leadership-focused opportunity within a renowned tunneling and underground construction contractor.
Responsibilities- Lead estimating activities for tunneling projects and sign off on bids
- Review contract plans, specs, and RFIs/RFPs to shape proposals
- Supervise estimating staff assigned to tunneling bids
- Solicit quotations from major subcontractors and suppliers
- Prepare HCSS comparison sheets and SOQ/RFP documentation
- Identify D/M/WBE requirements and develop compliance plans
- Coordinate JV bid setup and bid in HCSS
- Price bid items and discuss with project team; manage timelines and logistics
- Maintain communication with owner representatives and JV partners throughout the bid process
Key requirements- Bachelor degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or similar; 10+ years in estimating, project management, or construction (14+ years if degree not met)
- 10+ years of tunneling and/or heavy civil project experience
- 5+ years leading/supervising estimating teams
- Experience with HCSS, Primavera P6, and Procore or similar software
- Willingness to travel up to 15-20%
