Overview In this leadership role you oversee the Core Laboratory and Blood Bank operations to ensure accurate and efficient testing. You partner with the Laboratory Director and other leaders to implement policies, maintain quality and safety, and manage staffing and budgets. You will drive compliance with regulatory standards, conduct staff development, and serve as a resource for patient providers on test processes and results. This position offers an opportunity to influence lab performance, quality improvement, and multidisciplinary collaboration within the hospital. You will be at the center of ensuring reliable laboratory services that support patient care.
Responsibilities- Evaluate staff performance annually and provide technical guidance as needed.
- Collaborate with Laboratory Director and managers to formulate and ensure policy implementation.
- Ensure compliance with safety requirements per applicable regulations.
- Oversee the quality control program and departmental performance.
- Participate in long-range planning and budgeting, justify variances as needed.
- Supervise daily department operations and staffing schedules.
- Counsel personnel on hospital and lab policies related to job performance.
- Provide customer service to patient providers regarding tests, results, and collection techniques.
- Identify and resolve communication gaps, complaints, or employee concerns to determine root causes.
- Ensure ongoing regulatory readiness with the Laboratory Compliance Officer.
- Provide orientation and technical training for new employees and ensure competency.
- Engage in continuing education to stay current with lab technology advances.
- Participate in multidisciplinary committees and report back at leadership meetings.
- Perform other duties as directed by the Laboratory Director.
Key requirements- B.S. Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent
- Registration with the ASCP or equivalent
