Overview In this role you will oversee daily laboratory operations and supervise staff to uphold quality standards across shifts. You will drive QA measures, ensure accreditation compliance, and manage administrative tasks like scheduling and payroll review. You'll handle complex problems, guide the team through escalations, and support ongoing education and process improvements. This is a hands-on leadership role within a premier academic medical system where your work directly impacts patient care and lab performance. You will lead initiatives that strengthen quality, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities- Supervise daily lab operations and personnel to meet quality standards, deadlines, and procedures.
- Evaluate and update lab procedures and methodologies.
- Implement quality control measures, review results, and take corrective actions as needed.
- Prepare staff schedules, allocate priorities, and cover staffing gaps during equipment failures.
- Provide guidance to staff for complex problems and escalated issues.
- Recruit, interview, hire, and evaluate personnel; facilitate training for new hires and trainees.
- Orient staff on policies, procedures, and QC measures; ensure regulatory compliance.
- Report management on issues beyond own scope of knowledge.
- Organize in-service trainings and continuing education events.
- Review departmental payroll and maintain licensure/certification records.
- Maintain inventory of supplies and recommend equipment investments to optimize space.
- Perform other related duties.
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in science field
- 4 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting
- NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist license issued by DOH/Office of Professions
- ASCP Certification strongly preferred
