Blue Kite Wellness provides accessible, compassionate, individualized, and holistic mental health services to children, teens, adults, and families. We are seeking an Intensive Home-Based Support (IHBS) staff member to support children, youth, and families participating in the Illinois Pathways to Success program.
The IHBS staff member provides individualized, short-term behavioral health support in clients' homes and communities. Working under the clinical direction of an Intensive Home-Based Clinician, this role helps youth and caregivers implement therapeutic interventions, practice new skills, and apply behavioral strategies identified in the clinical intervention plan.
The IHBS staff member works collaboratively with youth, caregivers, the IHBC clinician, Care Coordinators, Child and Family Team members, and other authorized providers. Services are strengths-based, family-centered, and solution-focused, using applicable Managing and Adapting Practice tools and other strategies directed by the clinical team.
What You'll Do
- Provide Intensive Home-Based Support services to eligible children, youth, and families in accordance with authorized service plans and Illinois Pathways requirements.
- Carry out support interventions under the clinical direction of the assigned IHBC or supervisor.
- Help youth practice coping, emotional-regulation, communication, problem-solving, and behavioral skills in real-world home and community settings.
- Support parents and caregivers in responding to the youth's emotional and behavioral needs and implementing strategies that strengthen family functioning.
- Apply strengths-based, solution-focused approaches and applicable Managing and Adapting Practice tools as directed by the IHBC and Pathways leadership.
- Observe youth and family interactions and provide information that supports Functional Behavioral Assessments and clinical intervention planning.
- Participate as an active member of the Child and Family Team and provide timely updates regarding progress, barriers, risks, and service needs.
- Support Crisis Prevention and Safety Plans, help families practice prevention and de-escalation strategies, and promptly communicate safety concerns to the appropriate clinical team member.
- Complete timely and accurate documentation and participate in supervision, coaching, case consultation, team meetings, and required training.
- Maintain a reliable schedule and follow Blue Kite Wellness procedures related to confidentiality, professional boundaries, client safety, mandated reporting, incident reporting, and crisis response.
What We're Looking For Required Qualifications
- Meets current Illinois qualifications for a Mental Health Professional under applicable Illinois requirements. Qualifying pathways may include a bachelor's degree in a related human-services field or another recognized combination of education, certification, licensure, and documented experience.
- At least two years of experience working with children and families.
- Ability to engage youth and caregivers and build respectful, supportive working relationships.
- Ability to implement interventions under clinical direction and reinforce coping, emotional-regulation, communication, problem-solving, and behavioral skills.
- Ability to observe behavior accurately, recognize changes in client or family functioning, and communicate concerns promptly to the clinical team.
- Strong communication, organization, documentation, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries, respond calmly during challenging situations, and follow established clinical and safety plans.
- Ability to work independently in home and community settings while accepting and applying supervision, coaching, and feedback.
- Willingness and ability to complete required Pathways Intensive Home-Based training, maintain annual IM+CANS certification, participate in quarterly IHB booster training, and complete all required Blue Kite Wellness training.
- Reliable transportation, a current valid driver's license, and current auto liability insurance for travel to client homes and community-based service locations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting children or youth with behavioral health needs or complex emotional and behavioral challenges.
- Experience with family systems, skill-building, crisis prevention, care coordination, or home- and community-based services.
- Familiarity with Functional Behavioral Assessments, Crisis Prevention and Safety Plans, Managing and Adapting Practice tools, or multidisciplinary child- and family-serving systems.
Work Setting and Schedule
This is a field-based position involving frequent local travel and independent work in clients' homes, schools when authorized, community locations, and office settings. Telehealth may be used when permitted by the service plan and program requirements.
Scheduling is based on youth and family needs and may include evening hours. Must be able to safely navigate varied home and community environments and respond professionally during stressful or emotionally charged situations. The role also requires appropriate availability and responsiveness, including scheduled support outside traditional business hours when needed including evenings and one weekend day.
Compensation and Work Structure
- Hourly direct client care: $35.00-$40.00 per hour
- Hourly indirect and administrative work: $17.05 per hour
Direct client care includes individual and family therapeutic services and applicable caregiver or team collaboration. Indirect and administrative work may include documentation, travel between client locations, care coordination, clinical supervision, required meetings, training, and professional-development activities. Hourly employees are paid based on actual hours worked.
Placement within the applicable compensation range is based on experience, licensure, credentials, and overall qualifications. Reimbursable mileage is paid at the current IRS standard mileage rate.
