Overview As a Senior Surety Underwriter, you will develop and underwrite profitable surety business and service independent agents, brokers, and Small to Mid Commercial accounts in an assigned Florida territory. You will act as a trusted underwriting resource, building strong relationships with producers and customers while applying financial and risk analysis to support decisions. You'll manage profitability and retention of your book, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to surface opportunities across Liberty Mutual Surety and Global Risk Solutions. Responsibilities- Underwrite and negotiate accounts to maximize profitability while minimizing risk, including complex accounts
- Assess customer financials, technicals, organizational capacity and management strength to inform underwriting decisions
- Manage book profitability and retention; develop portfolio with agents and brokers; assist in marketing plans
- Analyze financial statements (static and trend-based) to determine financial position and risk exposure
- Stay current on product lines and leverage internal capabilities to identify opportunities with agents/brokers
- Handle underwriting/workflow issues within Surety policies and procedures; surface issues to Home Office Underwriters and Field Management
- Evaluate business continuity arrangements and funding mechanisms for owners
- Mentor junior staff as relevant
- Perform special projects and other duties as assigned
- Be prepared to come into the office up to two days/week if located near a GRS office
Key requirements- Degree in Business or equivalent
- 2.5-3+ years of surety underwriting experience or related experience
- Analytical ability to evaluate underwriting risks across the full process and use qualitative/quantitative tools
- Ability to understand and implement complex technical underwriting issues and related workflows
- Proven track record of developing and underwriting profitable surety business
