Overview In this role you will develop accurate, competitive electrical estimates for municipal and infrastructure projects, focusing on WWTP, water lines, and underground utilities. You'll translate plans into detailed takeoffs and cost proposals, collaborate with project teams and suppliers, and support bid decisions to secure profitable, compliant work. You will leverage estimating software and drive value engineering to improve competitiveness. Responsibilities- Review plans, specs and contracts to prepare electrical estimates and bid packages for WWTP, water line and underground utilities projects
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs, unit pricing, and labor/material cost calculations for medium/high voltage systems
- Use Accubid and digital takeoff tools to prepare and manage estimates and maintain estimating databases
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations; maintain vendor relationships for competitive pricing
- Coordinate with PMs, engineers, field staff, and scheduling teams to align estimates with constructability, schedule, and budget
- Conduct site visits and pre-bid meetings to validate conditions and capture scope clarifications
- Prepare bid summaries, assumptions, exclusions, and risk analyses; present recommendations for final bid decisions
- Perform value engineering to improve competitiveness and margin while ensuring quality and compliance
- Ensure estimates comply with NEC, OSHA, and local regulations
- Maintain historical cost databases, track bid results, and refine estimating processes and pricing models
Key requirements- 5+ years of electrical estimating experience with WWTP, wastewater/waterline, and underground utility projects
- Proficiency with Accubid or similar estimating software and digital takeoff tools; strong Excel/Word knowledge
- Solid understanding of electrical construction methods, labor productivity, material pricing, and installation practices
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to prepare clear bid documents and present findings
- Ability to travel to project locations; valid driver's license
- Knowledge of NEC and local codes; familiarity with municipal contracting and procurement preferred
- Certifications such as CPE or estimating certificates are a plus
- Bachelor-level equivalent experience considered in lieu of degree
- Associate degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Estimating, or related discipline
