Overview

In this role you drive Harvard's Sustainable Building Standards and decarbonization initiatives. You will work with schools and units to implement SBS, HHBA, and LBC, shaping capital projects and resources for sustainable design. You'll lead cross functional collaboration to pilot new sustainability strategies and share knowledge across projects. The work supports Harvard's climate goals and broader sustainability mission, with opportunities to influence both operational and embodied carbon. This is a mission driven, impact oriented opportunity in a fast paced sustainability team.

Responsibilities
  • Programmatically manage the Sustainable Building Standards (SBS) and HHBA initiatives
  • Maintain and enhance the OFS Sustainable Built Environment Resource Sharepoint site; develop tools for capital project teams
  • Pilot new sustainability strategies and document outcomes
  • Support Schools and Units in achieving SBS and decarbonization goals on capital projects
  • Train project teams on SBS and HHBA implementation; provide guidance on third party certifications
  • Review project documents at major design phases to ensure alignment with SBS and sustainability goals
  • Translate University wide decarbonization strategy into actionable goals for projects
  • Develop communication and knowledge sharing mechanisms for sustainability programs
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years in sustainability program management and implementation in built environment
  • Experience with third party sustainable building certifications (LBC and LEED)
  • Knowledge of sustainable design strategies and building energy systems
  • Experience reviewing design documents against sustainability goals
  • Strong stakeholder management and cross functional collaboration skills
  • Familiarity with Massachusetts/Boston/Cambridge energy codes and green building zoning is preferred
