Resident Engineer - Water/Wastewater

Overview

In this on-site role, you'll lead construction administration for wastewater projects at a Virginia plant, acting as the main interface with client, designers, constructors, and operators. You'll monitor schedule, budget, safety, and quality, guiding decisions on change orders, RFIs, and commissioning. You'll coordinate field activities, inspections, and closeout, delivering compliant as-built and O&M documentation. This position emphasizes hands-on project leadership and cross-team collaboration to keep projects on track and safe.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor contractor progress and quality to ensure Contract Documents compliance
  • Coordinate and approve shutdowns/outages with Owner and contractors
  • Investigate field issues and develop solutions with Owner/Engineer
  • Screen and respond to RFIs, coordinating timely resolutions
  • Review shop drawings, data, tests for conformance
  • Prepare and issue clarifications, work orders, and change directives
  • Oversee QA inspections and regulatory inspections
  • Lead testing, startups, and commissioning activities
  • Verify training and handover documentation meet contract requirements
  • Attend and chair project meetings; prepare minutes and status updates
  • Maintain project files, logs, and record drawings
  • Advise on safety on-site and manage final completion inspections
  • Review and approve record documents, as-builts, and O&M manuals
  • Provide oversight of inspection staff and on-site consultants
Key requirements
  • Bachelor in Engineering or Science
  • Professional experience in construction management/resident engineering of wastewater facilities
  • Familiarity with electronic project management software to track contracts (preferred)
  • Working knowledge of construction scheduling
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in diverse teams
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Physical ability to move around an active construction site
  • Full-time on-site attendance (no teleworking)
