Legal Project Manager

Overview

In this role you will lead the planning and delivery of the firm's LPM core services for large, complex institutional clients. You will partner with client operations, attorneys, and finance to manage scoping, budgets, forecasting, and billing compliance while providing routine reporting. You will drive process improvements, develop playbooks and training, and promote scalable tools and standards across client teams. The role combines strategic oversight with hands-on execution to improve profitability and client experience. The opportunity offers exposure to cross-functional leadership and innovative legal operations within a premier firm.

Responsibilities
  • Improve execution, efficiency, and accuracy of legal projects with a focus on process improvement and client experience
  • Document and maintain current/future workflows, decision rights, and handoffs
  • Set up and maintain budgets and AFAs; monitor budget-to-actuals, accruals, reforecasting, and financial performance
  • Ensure compliance with outside counsel/billing guidelines and AFA requirements, and escalate risks
  • Provide periodic KPI reporting to leadership with variances, risks, and recommended actions
  • Identify and lead process improvements to streamline workflows and improve client experience
  • Develop and maintain playbooks, templates, checklists, and training materials; deliver training and measure adoption
  • Update client-specific guidelines and operational standards for consistency across matters
  • Coordinate content for dashboards and reporting workspaces; partner with support teams for system administration
  • Leverage firm technologies to automate data capture and produce reports; extract insights for leadership
Key requirements
  • Strong knowledge of legal operations and matter lifecycle management
  • Experience with tools: Aderant, CounselLink, Legal Tracker, InTapp, HighQ, Tableau
  • Expertise in budgeting, forecasting, WIP/AR, realization, collections, and variance analysis
  • Ability to handle strategic and detailed tasks; collaborative work style
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills
  • High integrity, confidentiality, and client-service orientation
  • Minimum seven years in legal project management/operations; minimum three years of leadership in a distributed environment
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of training and experience
