Overview As a Project Manager in Design and Construction, you will oversee capital projects from planning to closeout, coordinating design, construction, and user input. You will serve as the primary point of accountability, leading cross functional teams and maintaining budgets and schedules. You'll ensure compliance with codes, safety standards, and accessibility, while mitigating impacts to campus operations. This role supports Stevens' sustainability and capital improvement goals through structured project governance and stakeholder collaboration. You will work in a university setting that values energy efficiency and responsible design.
Responsibilities- Lead project team meetings with SIT personnel to schedule work, shutdowns, tie ins, and contractor access
- Participate in cost control activities to optimize service delivery
- Review documents for compliance with SIT standards and existing site conditions
- Ensure projects meet applicable guidelines, codes and standards (FGI, NFPA, NJ and local Building Codes, ADA)
- Coordinate construction site accessibility and align schedules with SIT university functions
- Communicate construction impacts and collaborate with SIT leadership to mitigate disruption
- Perform daily site safety inspections and enforce dust control and safety culture
- Maintain interfaces with client and internal units to meet project performance goals and quality standards
- Oversee project scope, budgets, and schedules; define requirements and develop work plans
- Supervise Assistant Project Managers and student employees as needed
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture or Construction Management
- 7+ years of project management experience, with complex projects
- 3+ years of managerial experience supervising staff
- Experience across multiple project roles (consultant, construction manager, owner, architect, engineer, contractor)
- Registered Architect; AIA/NCARB membership/accreditation required
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to manage design development, bid processes, and contractor selection
- Proficiency in reading complex technical/business documents
- Strong communications and relationship-building
- High ethical and moral standards
- Excellent judgment and strong reasoning
- Microsoft Office Suite (intermediate to advanced)
- Experience with RFP and competitive bid processes
- Design development coordination with consultants and internal partners
