Overview In this role you will act as a therapeutic and disease-area expert for Orchard's gene therapy programs, driving scientific exchange with external specialists. You'll lead field medical excellence, coach peers, and shape national-strategy initiatives in the Eastern US. You'll build trusted partnerships with HCPs and KOLs across development stages, while ensuring compliant, high-value communications. This is a cross-functional, high-impact role that supports evidence generation and strategic objectives.
Responsibilities- Identify and nurture partnerships with healthcare providers and external experts to become trusted scientific partners
- Provide timely, audience-specific scientific updates on Orchard's programs across cross-functional teams
- Maintain training records and deliver updates to Qualified Treatment Centers per SOPs and Product Manual
- Develop territory profiles (Centers of Excellence, newborn screening, market access) to inform medical strategy
- Gather field insights on data, therapeutic area, and competition to inform company strategies
- Maintain operational excellence with governance and risk management
- Oversee IST and Early Access Program requests through internal review processes
- Foster internal partnerships across Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Market Access, Commercial, etc.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and legal guidelines
- Maintain and enhance clinical, scientific, and technical expertise in the therapeutic area
- Develop strategic initiatives for field medical excellence
- Lead at least two large cross-functional projects while maintaining geographic responsibilities
- Mentor and coach junior MSLs and peers
- Create US field resource materials tailored to stakeholder groups and disease state
- Provide strategic insights to support objectives and communicate scientific findings
- Monitor competitive landscape and relay insights to internal stakeholders
- Act as a peer leader for onboarding and field excellence
- Travel frequently (75%) and manage multiple priorities across regions
Key requirements- Advanced degree plus 5+ years in scientific, clinical, or MSL role in biotech/pharmaceuticals
- Extensive MSL experience supporting post-approval products in the field
- Proven ability to lead and motivate teams without direct reporting lines
- Strong track record with healthcare providers and clinical care teams
- Knowledge of US government and industry guidelines for compliant information exchange
- Experience in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, gene therapy, or neurology/genetics (neurometabolic genetics preferred)
- Experience creating and delivering scientific educational materials for multispecialty audiences
- Strong network with HCPs and industry experts
- Fluency in English (spoken and written)
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
