Area Building Engineering Services (BES) Business Development Leader

Overview

You drive growth for HDR's BES group by shaping strategic plans and building senior-level client relationships. In this role you partner with Area leadership to capture opportunities, lead pursuit efforts, and steer marketing and content to elevate HDR's brand. You'll integrate market insights with cross-functional teams to develop long-term growth initiatives. This is a chance to influence HDR's market position while delivering impact across high-profile building projects and align with HDR's inclusive, collaborative culture. You will lead with strategic vision and hands-on execution to deliver measurable results.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with BES Business Group Manager to plan for long-term success
  • Develop relationships with senior client leadership and act as Client Manager for assigned accounts
  • Identify and qualify leads to meet annual financial goals
  • Manage area BD and marketing budgets and reporting metrics
  • Maintain market awareness and inform strategic plans and growth initiatives
  • Lead go/no-go decisions and pursue strategies with area leadership
  • Coordinate pursuit teams, craft win strategies, and engage project management and technical talent
  • Develop persuasive proposals, manage cost/fee docs, and support interview materials
  • Coach teams for effective client presentations and debriefs to improve competitiveness
  • Direct content marketing campaigns to boost brand visibility
  • Onboard and mentor BD/marketing staff; assist in hiring and talent development
  • Understand HDR's risk management framework for new opportunities
  • Engage in professional associations to elevate HDR's brand
  • Articulate HDR's capabilities and collaborate across organization
Key requirements
  • Minimum 10 years in relevant industry experience
  • Self-starter with track record of delivering with limited oversight
  • Deep knowledge of A/E/C procurement of professional services
  • Proven ability to motivate and inspire others
  • Proven ability to build a client and partner network
  • Experience in sales and creating effective win strategies
  • Strong financial acumen and negotiation skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Willingness and ability to travel and meet in person
  • Experience writing compelling content from technical staff information
