Overview Senior Preconstruction Manager leads strategy and planning for data center projects before construction. You partner with project managers to ensure timely, on-budget delivery while maximizing client satisfaction. The role blends estimating, risk management, and design-phase oversight to protect margins and enable a smooth transition to construction. You'll work within the Data Center Innovations division to shape pursuit strategy and drive preconstruction excellence. Responsibilities- Develop preconstruction strategies and objectives for projects to ensure safe, on-time, on-budget delivery with high client satisfaction
- Own conceptual estimates for major new mechanical systems and manage budgets and scopes preconstruction
- Lead design-phase work, risk management, and opportunities tracking to protect gross margins
- Coordinate with Project Managers to ensure seamless handoff from preconstruction to construction
- Support sales through development of conceptual mechanical budgets and scope letters
- Lead department-wide initiatives to improve quality and efficiency of client deliverables
- Handle project controls, scheduling inputs, and financial reporting during preconstruction
- Prepare and manage RFPs, subcontracts, and change orders during design phases
- Oversee a portfolio of preconstruction projects and key pursuits; mentor team members
- Ensure accurate pricing, vendor coordination, and procurement planning during preconstruction
- Contribute to business development and participate in project interviews
- Master understanding of delivery methods, contracts, and how they affect preconstruction
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Engineering
- 10-20+ years in project management, engineering, or construction with strong estimating background
- Proficiency with scheduling software: Microsoft Project, Primavera, and/or SureTrak
- Completed OSHA 10
- Experience with General Contractor or major Mechanical Subcontractor; large data center experience
- PE, CPM, LEED designations preferred but not required
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Basic estimating skills; construction financial program familiarity preferred
- RCDD, CPM designations preferred
